The Kiwanis Club of New Kingston (KCNK) is excited to introduce the KCNK Little Bee Spelling App, designed specifically for kids aged 4 to 9. Sponsored by Grace Kennedy Money Services (GKMS) and Western Union (WU), this app offers a fun way to learn spelling with three engaging modes.
The app can be enjoyed offline and features two learning modes and a competition mode, each with 10 progressive levels. Each level includes 15 or more words to master, and the words remain consistent across all modes.
In the Settings section, students can input their name, age, parish, and school. They can then choose between Learning Mode 1, Learning Mode 2, or Competition Mode.
Learning Mode 1 helps students spell words by tapping each letter in sequence. The app audibly names each letter, allowing kids to follow along and correct any mistakes by tapping on them. To hear the word again, students can tap the little bee icon at the top left. Progressing through this mode requires spelling each word correctly to move to the next, and completing all words in a level to advance.
Learning Mode 2 challenges students with jumbled letters. They must rearrange them to correctly spell the word. Like the first mode, mistakes can be undone, and the word can be replayed by tapping the bee icon. Correctly spelling each word is necessary to move forward and complete the level.
Competition Mode adds an exciting twist with jumbled letters and extra letters. Students are timed as they spell 10 random words from each level's pool, aiming to complete levels as quickly as possible. The leaderboard on the main page displays the time spent on each level.
Students can restart the game from the Settings page. It's important to wait until a letter is fully called before selecting the next one. Both students and parents are encouraged to screenshot the leaderboard and share it with teachers.
