The cards unveiled today belong to the "Through the Ages" bonus sheet, nestled within the expansive main set. These are reprints of existing cards, reimagined with concept art and characters from various Final Fantasy titles. While they don't introduce new mechanics or unique cards like those featured in the recently revealed Commander decks, the artwork stretches back to the very first game in the series, adding a nostalgic touch to these cards.

Unlike the cards in the main set, Through the Ages cards are not legal in Magic's Standard format, though they retain their legality if the original card was already legal. Essentially, they serve as alternate art versions of existing cards. These cards can be found in the luxurious Collector Boosters and also appear in one out of every three regular Play Boosters, which are used for Limited events such as Draft and Sealed.
If you're planning to dive deep into this set, whether at your local game store or digitally on platforms like Magic: The Gathering Arena, you'll likely encounter these cards frequently. Five of the six cards revealed are Rares, making them less common, but Thrum of the Vestige stands out as an Uncommon. This card, a reskin of the iconic Lightning Bolt, is poised to make a significant impact on the set.
The Warrior of Light's reprinting of Jodah, the Unifier, is sure to be a fan favorite. Jodah is a formidable and widely used Commander, and the art chosen here is Amano's from the Japanese boxart of the original Final Fantasy. Similarly, Amano's iconic art for Final Fantasy 4's Cecil Harvey has been repurposed for Tymna the Weaver, one of Magic's most potent partner commanders, which has seen only one reprint before this.
These cards will be available in physical form as part of the larger Final Fantasy set on June 13, with digital versions launching on MTG Arena and MTGO on June 10. Even if you're a Final Fantasy enthusiast not yet into Magic, there's plenty to be excited about. Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the FF7 Remake series, hinted that the design of Sephiroth on one card holds a mysterious significance, adding an extra layer of intrigue for fans.
