Krafton has officially rebranded Dark and Darker Mobile as Abyss of Dungeons, with minimal gameplay changes. This move appears to strategically distance the project from Ironmace Studios' ongoing legal disputes with Nexon.
Rebranding Due to Legal Controversies
The renaming follows the prolonged legal battle between Ironmace (founded by ex-Nexon employees) and Nexon over alleged misuse of trade secrets in developing Dark and Darker. The lawsuit continues despite previous reports suggesting a potential name change for the mobile version.
What This Means for Players
Core gameplay remains unchanged in Abyss of Dungeons. The mobile version already differentiated itself from the PC original with a third-person perspective and other modifications. The current rebranding appears purely cosmetic, focusing on name and likely some Dark and Darker-specific content.
Ironmace fans may find this development disappointing, but the mobile version could still complement the PC game. A soft launch is scheduled for June 11th in Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia and Mexico.
