Alcyone: The Last City has officially arrived on Android, Windows, macOS, Linux/SteamOS, and iOS platforms. Conceived as a Kickstarter project back in May 2017 by developer and publisher Joshua Meadows, years of development and expansion have culminated in its release.
What’s the Story?
In a dark, dystopian future, Alcyone stands as the sole surviving city following the collapse of the universe. Every choice you make shapes the narrative, with no option to reset or undo decisions—just the weight of their consequences.
As a 'rebirth,' your character has previously perished and been resurrected in a cloned body with retained memories. You can opt to belong to the ruling elite or merely eke out a living.
Controlled by six oppressive Ruling Houses enforcing a rigid class system, the city thrives on inequality. While the wealthy revel in luxury, the impoverished struggle for survival. This volatile setting teeters on the brink of chaos.
This grim world stems from ill-fated experiments involving hyperspace and faster-than-light travel, which catastrophically backfired. Now, Alcyone: The Last City remains tethered precariously to existence.
What Does Alcyone: The Last City Look Like?
With striking visuals and meticulously hand-drawn digital art, the game captures the gritty atmosphere of its broken world. Featuring nearly 250k words of branching narrative tailored to your actions, here’s a preview of Alcyone: The Last City.
One standout feature is the developers' commitment to accessibility and inclusivity. The game boasts high-contrast color palettes for those with color blindness, clearly labeled art elements, dyslexia-friendly fonts, and seamless integration with screen readers such as VoiceOver.
With seven primary endings and five distinct romance paths, including aromantic alternatives, the game ensures diverse experiences. Moreover, it’s cross-platform, meaning a single purchase grants access across all devices. For more details, visit the official website.
