Clueless Sequel Series with Alicia Silverstone Greenlit

As if they could resist bringing Alicia Silverstone back in her signature yellow and plaid. The beloved actress is reportedly set to return as Cher Horowitz in a new Clueless sequel series for Peacock.

According to Variety, the series is currently in development at the streamer, though specific plot points remain under wraps. What we do know is that Silverstone is on board, the show will continue the story from the original 1995 movie, and the creative team includes familiar names involved in the film. This new spin-off also appears to be different from the version Peacock was developing back in 2020.

Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage—best known for co-creating the original Gossip Girl series and executive producing its revival—are writing the show alongside Jordan Weiss. All three will also executive produce, along with Amy Heckerling, the original writer-director of Clueless, and Robert Lawrence, the film’s original producer. Production will be handled by CBS Studios and Universal Television.

This isn’t the first time Clueless has been adapted for television. Following the film's success, a TV series ran on ABC and UPN from 1996 to 1999, starring Rachel Blanchard as Cher instead of Silverstone.

Silverstone recently revisited her iconic role in a 2023 Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten, making it clear she’s more than ready to dive back into Cher’s fabulous wardrobe—and frankly, we couldn’t be more excited.
