Assassin's Creed Shadows' First DLC, "Claws of Awaji," Leaks on Steam

Details regarding the upcoming "Claws of Awaji" expansion for Assassin's Creed Shadows have seemingly surfaced prematurely via a Steam leak, as reported by Insider Gaming. This first DLC for the highly anticipated title adds a significant amount of new content.

Set in feudal Japan, Assassin's Creed Shadows introduces players to Yasuke, a Samurai, and Naoe, a Shinobi, as they navigate 16th-century Japan. The game's development has been plagued by delays and controversy, most recently pushing the release date to March 20, 2025.

The leaked Steam update, since removed, revealed that "Claws of Awaji" will include:

  • A new region to explore.
  • A new weapon type.
  • New skills and abilities.
  • Additional gear.
  • Over 10 hours of gameplay.

Furthermore, the leak suggests pre-ordering the game will grant access to both the "Claws of Awaji" DLC and a bonus mission. This leak follows the recent delay announcement, further adding to the tumultuous pre-launch period for Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Delayed Launch and Ubisoft's Uncertain Future

The leak coincides with the game's second delay, moving the release from February 14, 2025, to March 20, 2025. Ubisoft cited the need for further polishing and refinement. This delay, coupled with recent speculation of a potential Tencent buyout, highlights a challenging period for Ubisoft, following less-than-stellar performance from titles like XDefiant and Star Wars Outlaws. The company's future remains uncertain as it prepares for the launch of one of its most anticipated titles.
