Assassin’s Creed Shadows Hits 3 Million Players, Ubisoft Yet to Reveal Sales

Author : Charlotte Apr 09,2025

Ubisoft has proudly announced that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has attracted over 3 million players within just seven days of its launch on May 20. This impressive figure marks a significant increase from the 2 million players reported on the second day of its release, outpacing the launch performances of both Origins and Odyssey.

In addition to the player count, Ubisoft shared other notable statistics. Assassin's Creed Shadows achieved the second highest day one sales revenue in the franchise's history, only surpassed by Valhalla. It also became the biggest Ubisoft title ever on the PlayStation Store on its launch day. To date, the game has accumulated over 40 million hours of playtime.

The launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows comes at a critical time for Ubisoft, following a series of challenges including delays, the sales disappointment of Star Wars Outlaws, high-profile flops, layoffs, studio closures, and game cancellations. The pressure on Shadows to perform well globally is immense, especially as Ubisoft's founding Guillemot family reportedly considered talks with investors such as Tencent for a buyout deal that would retain control of the company's intellectual property.

The gaming community is keenly watching Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ performance, particularly its concurrent player numbers on Steam. Over the weekend, Shadows set a new record for the most-played Assassin's Creed game on Steam with a peak of 64,825 concurrent players. This is noteworthy, as it's the first game in the series to launch day-one on Steam since Odyssey in 2018. In comparison, BioWare’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard reached a peak of 89,418 players on the platform.

While the player engagement and concurrent numbers are promising, the true measure of Assassin’s Creed Shadows' success lies in its financial performance. Without specific revenue or sales figures, it's challenging to determine if the game is meeting, exceeding, or falling short of Ubisoft’s expectations. The company's next financial report will shed more light on this aspect, which will be crucial not only for the game but for Ubisoft's future.
