Borderlands 4 Gears Up for Launch

Photo Mode to Arrive in a Post-Launch Update

Borderlands 4 will include a photo mode, though it won't be available until after the game's release. Creative Director Graeme Timmins shared in a June 25 Twitter (X) post that the feature was originally intended for launch but was deprioritized as the team concentrated on more critical game elements.

In a subsequent comment, Timmins explained, "I prioritized polishing other components that are more central to the moment-to-moment gameplay. We always intended to include it and had it scheduled, but we needed to dedicate additional time to aspects that directly impact the quality of life during play."

Borderlands 3, the previous title, launched with photo mode in 2019, though consoles received it later. The developers have listened to community feedback from the last game and are doing their utmost to act on it.

More recently, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford announced that the team implemented a highly requested feature just before launch. On June 20, Pitchford revealed on Twitter (X) that a combat radar will be available for players seeking assistance during gameplay.

This helpful tool enhances players' spatial awareness, allowing them to detect enemies across the battlefield. Note that the combat radar is disabled by default and must be enabled in the settings.

Pitchford emphasized the value of community input for the game's development, thanking "dedicated fans who genuinely want the best for the game and provided constructive feedback with well-reasoned arguments."

New Official Story Trailer Unveiled at Borderlands Fan Fest

At the Borderlands Fan Fest on June 21, Gearbox and 2K Games debuted a new story trailer that delves into the game's setting and narrative. The two-minute video provided a glimpse into the player's journey on the planet Kairos.

The plot centers on The Timekeeper and his Order's oppressive rule over Kairos. Vault Hunters must ignite a revolution to overthrow this regime. With support from Claptrap and the Crimson Resistance, players will gather allies, secure resources, and strive to liberate the planet's inhabitants.

Borderlands 4 Photo Mode Will Come Post-Launch

In contrast to Borderlands 3, the new installment adopts a more serious tone, reducing comedic elements and offering more grounded dialogue. It will be intriguing to see how the developers transition from their "meme-style" approach, given the story's setting in a totalitarian world with higher stakes.

Borderlands 4 is scheduled for release on September 12, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. For the latest updates and details about the game, explore our article below!
