HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 will resurrect cut content from the original The Last of Us Part II video game, according to showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann. Druckmann revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the show will feature "pretty brutal" scenes, including elements from the "Lost Levels" partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster. These levels, including Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers, offer a range of tones, from the relatively calmer party and boar hunt sequences to the intense horror of Ellie's encounter with monsters in the Seattle sewers.

The inclusion of this cut content promises intense viewing. Druckmann hinted at a "pretty prominent" character, previously only mentioned in the game, making an appearance, echoing the Season 1 inclusion of Frank.
Season 2 introduces numerous new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel. Catherine O'Hara's role remains a mystery.
With the first episode slated for an April premiere, answers to these mysteries are imminent. However, HBO plans to adapt The Last of Us Part II over multiple seasons, unlike Season 1's single-season adaptation of the first game. Showrunner Craig Mazin explained that Part II's extensive narrative necessitates this approach. While Season 3 isn't confirmed, Season 2's seven episodes will conclude with a "natural breakpoint."
