How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To embark on a romantic journey with Caldarus in Fields of Mistria, you must first break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you'll need to offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Once the offering is complete, a cutscene will play where the Mines Priestess warns the farmer to leave or face being sealed. As your health depletes, Caldarus heroically appears, transforms into his human form, gifts you the Dragon’s Breath spell, and then retreats to the Deep Woods. In his human guise, you can interact and gift him items just as you would with other romanceable NPCs in Mistria.
After breaking the Fire Seal, Caldarus can be found at his temple in the Deep Woods, which you can permanently unlock on your map using the Dragon’s Breath spell.
Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

With the March 2025 update, Caldarus starts with a heart level of six upon being unlocked as a romanceable character. Currently, this is the maximum heart level, meaning there are no additional heart events for Caldarus at this time. However, future updates from NPC Studio may introduce more events.
Currently, there are a few cutscenes involving Caldarus. The first is a dream sequence at the game's start, introducing the game's magic system and mechanics. The second occurs after breaking the Fire Seal, where Caldarus saves the farmer and reveals his human form before retreating to the Deep Woods to recover. Both scenes are part of the natural story progression.
Following the update, you can also trigger a date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival, marking the end of summer in Fields of Mistria, offers a unique chance to take any romanceable NPC with four or more hearts on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Since Caldarus starts at six hearts, you can automatically invite him. To do so, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet him afterward to start the event, triggering a special cutscene.
During your date at the Summit, Caldarus expresses gratitude for the invitation and shares insights into the stars and the ancient Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. Your conversation delves into the nature of soul connections and the role of villains in stories, hinting at deeper narratives. As fatigue sets in, Caldarus invites you to continue watching the stars from his temple.
