The critically acclaimed series *Shōgun*, which swept up 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is gearing up for a highly anticipated second season. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis, who portrays the pilot John Blackthorn, will not only reprise his role but also step into the shoes of a co-executive producer for Season 2.
In another exciting development, Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays the lead and signed on for the second season last May following the show's renewal from its initial limited series format, has been promoted to executive producer. This comes after his involvement in producing the first season. Production for the new season is set to kick off in Vancouver, the same location as the original series, starting in January 2026.
FX has described the upcoming season as “a wholly original new chapter to the first season,” which was an adaptation of James Clavell’s novel. The network provided insight into the narrative bridge between the two seasons:
“In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.
"Part two of Shōgun is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined.”
Fans of the series can look forward to new episodes potentially by the end of 2026, though for now, all we can do is wait and hope for the best.
