Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, dreams of a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film alongside Keanu Reeves. Find out what he had to say about this exciting potential reunion!
A Night City Reunion?
In an interview with ScreenRant promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he and Reeves share the screen), Idris Elba expressed his strong belief that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation would be incredible, particularly with himself and Keanu Reeves reprising their roles. His enthusiastic response to the possibility of a cinematic reunion was, "Oh, man, that's a great question. I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077], and I think his character and my character together would be, ‘Whoa.’ So, let's speak that into existence."
Elba's Solomon Reed and Reeves' iconic Johnny Silverhand could ignite the screen. This isn't just wishful thinking; Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is underway, with CD Projekt Red collaborating with Anonymous Content. While details remain scarce, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and The Witcher live-action series makes a Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation highly plausible.
More Cyberpunk on the Horizon
Beyond a potential live-action film, the Cyberpunk universe continues to expand. The prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched its first chapter in several languages, with an English release expected later. The manga will explore the backstory of Rebecca and Pilar before their involvement with Maine's crew.
Furthermore, a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Blu-ray release is planned for 2025, and a new animated series is in the works. CD Projekt Red is clearly committed to expanding the Cyberpunk franchise across multiple media.
