Doom Slayers Collection Rumored for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Return

The Doom Slayers Collection, a compilation of four classic and modern Doom games, may be making a comeback on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. The collection, which includes remasters of Doom, Doom II, Doom III, and the 2016 Doom reboot, was delisted in 2024.

Recent ESRB ratings strongly suggest a re-release on current-gen consoles. The ratings specifically list PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, omitting Switch and last-gen consoles, hinting at a digital-only return for these platforms. The recent ESRB rating for Doom 64 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S further supports this speculation, as the physical edition of the Doom Slayers Collection originally included a Doom 64 download code.

The 1993 original Doom revolutionized the first-person shooter genre, pioneering 3D graphics, multiplayer, and user-created mods. Its enduring legacy extends beyond gaming, encompassing films and even a near-miss crossover appearance in Secret Level. This planned resurgence of the Doom Slayers Collection follows a pattern established by Bethesda, who previously delisted individual Doom titles before releasing them as a combined package. This aligns with id Software's history of porting its back catalog to current-gen platforms, as seen with Quake II.

Games Included in the Doom Slayers Collection:

  • Doom
  • Doom II
  • Doom III
  • Doom (2016)

Beyond the potential return of the Doom Slayers Collection, fans have another reason to celebrate: Doom: The Dark Ages, a highly anticipated prequel set in a medieval setting, is slated for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025. This intriguing title promises a unique twist on the established sci-fi franchise.
