Penned by Aubrey Sitterson (No One Left to Fight) and illustrated by Jed Dougherty (Savage Hearts), the debut issue boasts cover art from Dougherty and Fico Ossio. Image's official synopsis:

Humanity's first truly free planet celebrates its hard-won independence. Now, revolutionary heroes must safeguard the planet's unique energy source from warring intergalactic forces, while grappling with the true meaning of freedom. SITTERSON and DOUGHERTY seamlessly weave the intricate historical tapestry of EAST OF WEST with the emotional depth of SAGA, crafting a narrative of freedom and its inherent sacrifices.

Sitterson shared with IGN, " Free Planet represents the future of comics – Jed and I strive to elevate the medium with a truly literary comic, its rich complexity brought to life visually. From intense military action to intricate political maneuvering and poignant personal drama, every page is brimming with visual detail; it's a richly layered exploration of what everyone desires, regardless of their political stance: Freedom. Its home at Image Comics is fitting, a publisher dedicated to granting creators the freedom to produce their most personal and impactful work."

Dougherty added, "Aubrey and I have collaborated on fantasy and comedic projects. Free Planet marks our foray into a more serious work: revolutionaries battling interstellar powers to protect their planet's resources. Mirroring the script's complexity, my art style incorporates grittier rendering and experimental page layouts. The diverse cast of characters has come alive as they fight across land and space, rebuild their society, and pursue vengeance, justice, and even love."

Play Free Planet #1 launches Wednesday, May 7.
