As The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) celebrates its 10th anniversary, Zenimax Online Studios has unveiled a series of thrilling updates. During the ESO Direct 2025 event on April 10, the long-awaited subclass system was announced, marking a significant milestone for the game.

For years, players have desired the flexibility to switch between classes without the hassle of starting over. The introduction of subclasses addresses this by allowing players to mix and match skill lines from different classes, enhancing the MMO experience.

To access this feature, players need to reach level 50. Once at this level, they can keep one skill line from their original class and swap the other two with skill lines from any of the six other classes. This system unlocks over 3000 unique combinations, empowering players to craft their ideal playstyle.

ESO Game Director Rich Lambert expressed confidence in the new feature, noting that despite potential increases in Power Levels, the development team is satisfied with the balance achieved through extensive testing.

Seasons of the Worm Cult

ZeniMax Online is shifting towards seasonal content, a move that Studio Director Matt Firor believes will foster more experimental approaches to content creation and better address player feedback.

He stated, "We want to keep telling great stories, but also mix in new ideas and gameplay systems, and that's exactly what we're going to do, but we'll do this in a different cadence, one that allows us, the developers, to broaden our focus and increase variety."

The upcoming chapter, "Seasons of the Worm Cult," serves as a sequel to the game's original Molag Bal storyline, set a decade later. Players will explore the new zone, the Isle of Solstice, to uncover the mysteries surrounding the resurgence of the Worm Cult.

Producer Susan Kath explained that while "Seasons of the Worm Cult" will span most of the year, future seasons are expected to last between 3 to 6 months. ZeniMax plans to introduce "remix" seasons, revisiting beloved storylines, with a teased Dark Brotherhood-themed season on the horizon.
