Evil Dead: The Game, the asymmetric multiplayer title inspired by the iconic action horror franchise, is no longer available for purchase. The game, which debuted in 2022 across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, received an 8/10 from IGN, praised for its thrilling gameplay that mirrored the rough yet compelling nature of the films it was based on. Our review stated, "Evil Dead: The Game is an asymmetric multiplayer game of cat and mouse that's compelling and exhilarating, despite being rough around the edges - much like the horror/comedies that inspired it."
Despite the launch of a Game of the Year Edition the following year, the game struggled to maintain its player base. The planned Nintendo Switch version was canceled in September 2023, and content development ceased thereafter. Now, three years post-launch, Evil Dead: The Game has been completely removed from digital storefronts. However, its servers will continue to operate, allowing existing owners to keep playing.
In a statement on the game's Steam page, developer and publisher Saber Interactive confirmed the delisting:
We can confirm we've begun the process of removing the game from digital storefronts. Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone.
We want to extend a sincere thank you to our community, to those who have been part of the game from the very beginning, and those who have recently joined us. We appreciate all of your support.
The decision to pull Evil Dead: The Game from sale has been met with disappointment from the community, as evidenced by numerous negative reviews on its Steam page. Many players feel the game is now effectively dead, contributing to its 'mixed' user review rating. Amidst the disappointment, one positive review from a player with over 380 hours of playtime reads, "The end is nigh. It was fun while it lasted, lads. I mean that."
Saber Interactive, known for last year's successful release Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, is moving forward with several other licensed movie games. Their upcoming titles include John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, Jurassic Park Survival, and an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender game. Additionally, Turok: Origins and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 are in development.
