Recent reports confirm that showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have exited the God of War adaptation. Despite reportedly completing multiple scripts, Sony and Amazon have opted for a different creative vision.
Key figures remaining attached include executive producers Cory Barlog (Santa Monica Studio Creative Director), Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan (PlayStation Productions), Roy Lee (Vertigo), and Yumi Yang (Santa Monica Studio). Sony and Amazon will now seek a new showrunner and production team to redefine the series' direction. Importantly, the project remains uncancelled.
The Road Ahead: Delays, But Not Abandonment
Initially announced on a PlayStation podcast in 2022, following the success of the 2018 God of War game reboot, the Amazon and Sony collaboration is part of a broader initiative to adapt PlayStation's popular game franchises. This led to the formation of PlayStation Productions in 2019.
