DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn and other members of the Peacemaker crew were caught on camera expressing their surprise and amusement when they learned that Warner Bros. Discovery was reverting its streaming service name back to HBO Max during the filming of promotional material for Season 2. The unexpected announcement left not only fans but also some of the biggest names at DC puzzled and entertained.

Earlier today, HBO's parent company shocked everyone by announcing the reversal of its streaming service rebrand. This summer, the apps will transition from the current Max name back to the original HBO Max, causing widespread confusion and a bit of humor among the DC team.

The soon-to-be-renamed Max's official X account quickly shared the recorded reactions of Gunn and Peacemaker star John Cena following the announcement. In the footage, the duo is seen reading from a teleprompter, encouraging audiences to tune into Peacemaker Season 2, set to debut on August 21.

As Gunn reads the script, he stumbles upon the mention of HBO Max, visibly taken aback by the change. He's informed that it's not an error and that the rebrand will be officially announced at the Upfront. Gunn humorously comments, "God, we’re calling it HBO Max – what? We’re calling it HBO Max again?" Other crew members, including DC Studios Co-CEO Peter Safran, chime in, adding to the confusion and laughter. Gunn, however, expresses his approval of the change, stating, "That’s good, actually, but I didn’t know that was happening."

Meanwhile, John Cena appears to be in the know and is seen breaking the news to some of the crew members behind the camera, adding to the light-hearted chaos.

While this could be an elaborate publicity stunt orchestrated by the HBO Max team, the genuine reactions from the DC Studios team are undeniably entertaining. The videos capturing these moments have been shared widely on social media, showcasing the humorous side of the rebranding news.

HBO Max initially launched in 2020 as a comprehensive streaming platform for a wide range of content. It retained its name until 2023 when the newly merged Warner Bros. Discovery decided to simplify it to Max. Now, after two years of adjustment to the new name, the company has reconsidered and opted to return to HBO Max.

Although no specific date for the rebrand has been set, fans can stay updated on both the HBO Max changes and the upcoming Peacemaker Season 2. In the meantime, you can explore other notable DC projects scheduled for 2025 and delve into the latest insights from Peacemaker Season 2's trailer.
