Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of Grand Theft Auto, spearheaded the movement towards $70 AAA game pricing. Concerns exist that they might increase prices even further with Grand Theft Auto 6.
While a standard edition of GTA 6 might remain in the $70 range, avoiding the $80-$100 price point, industry insiders suggest a premium edition priced at $100-$150 with early access could be offered.
Tez2, a reputable insider, notes that Take-Two already sells GTA Online and Red Dead Online separately. GTA 6 will be the first title to launch with online and story modes sold separately, with the story mode included in a "complete package."
This separate pricing structure necessitates careful consideration. How much will online access cost independently? What will be the upgrade price for story mode for those who initially purchase only the online component?
A lower price for the online version could attract budget-conscious gamers, creating a lucrative upgrade path to the story mode. This strategy also generates revenue from players who desire the story mode but can't afford the full upgrade price.
Further monetization could be achieved through a Game Pass-style subscription, like GTA+. Players opting for continuous gameplay over saving for an upgrade would provide a consistent revenue stream, further benefiting Take-Two.
