Jon Bernthal is set to reprise his role as the Punisher following the release of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, in a Marvel special reminiscent of the style seen in the Guardians of the Galaxy specials. Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Bernthal will not only star but also co-write the special alongside Reinaldo Marcus Green, the director known for We Own This City.
Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, expressed his excitement about the project, describing it as "a shotgun blast of a story" that encapsulates the deep emotional resonance fans expect from a Frank Castle narrative. This unique blend of intense action and heartfelt storytelling is poised to captivate audiences.

The announcement of the Punisher one-shot coincides with Marvel Television's plans to revive the Defenders on Disney+. This gritty team of street-level heroes, featuring Matt Murdock's Daredevil, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist, had previously made their mark on Netflix before transitioning to Disney+ and being integrated into the MCU canon.
Brad Winderbaum shared his enthusiasm with Entertainment Weekly about the opportunity to delve into this world, acknowledging the challenges of television production compared to the limitless possibilities of comic books. "Obviously, we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book, [where] if you can draw it, you can do it," he noted. "We’re dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring."
Daredevil: Born Again, set to premiere on March 4, will pick up where the Netflix series left off, bringing back fan-favorite characters including the Punisher and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin. The series introduces a new threat in the form of the artistically inclined serial killer, Muse, promising a thrilling continuation of the Daredevil saga.
