Jurassic Park Movies in Chronological Order
These summaries contain mild spoilers, focusing on characters, settings, and general plot points.
1. Jurassic Park (1993)
The Jurassic Park timeline is mostly straightforward, aligning the feature films' release order with their chronological sequence. Only the short films and the Netflix series might need some navigation.
Jurassic Park brings Michael Crichton's novel to life, introducing the thrilling concept of cloning dinosaurs using DNA extracted from prehistoric mosquitoes preserved in amber. John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), the entrepreneur behind this venture, aims to create a dinosaur theme park on the fictional island of Isla Nublar.
Paleontologist Alan Grant (Sam Neill), paleobotanist Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and mathematician Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) are invited to evaluate the park's safety. Accompanied by Hammond's grandchildren, Lex and Tim Murphy, their visit turns perilous when a tropical storm hits and a saboteur cuts the power, disabling the security systems. The group must then navigate a harrowing escape from the now-free dinosaurs, including velociraptors and a Tyrannosaurus rex.

2. The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)
Set and released four years after Jurassic Park, The Lost World sees the return of Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) and John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), joined by paleontologist Sarah Harding (Julianne Moore).
This sequel unfolds on a second island, Isla Sorna, where Hammond had also cloned dinosaurs. Abandoned to their own devices, these creatures now roam free. A corporate power struggle within InGen pits Hammond's nephew, Peter Ludlow (Arliss Howard), who seeks to exploit the dinosaurs for profit, against Hammond, Malcolm, and Harding, who aim to establish the island as a nature preserve for scientific study.
Amidst territorial dinosaurs, the two factions clash, leading to intense chase sequences and casualties. Ludlow's team captures a T-Rex, intending to transport it to a new park in San Diego. When it escapes and causes chaos, Malcolm and Harding work to recapture it non-lethally.
