Marvel Rivals developers have unveiled an exciting roadmap for the game, promising to introduce new heroes on a monthly basis and to shorten the length of upcoming seasons. This article delves into the details of these changes set to roll out post-Season 2, along with information on new characters and skins.
Marvel Rivals Upcoming Changes
New Heroes Every Month
In their ongoing efforts to keep the game vibrant and engaging, NetEase has announced a shift in their content release strategy. Starting from Season 3, Marvel Rivals will introduce new heroes every month, moving away from their previous schedule of two heroes per season. This update was shared by Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong during the Marvel Rivals’ Dev Vision Vol. 05 on April 4, alongside other significant adjustments to the game's seasonal structure.
The developers plan to reduce the duration of each season from three months to two. Guangguang explained, "After extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from Season 3, the seasons will shift to a two-month format, with a new hero debuting each month." This change aims to keep the game fresh and exciting, responding to community feedback and social media discussions.
Guangguang also mentioned the potential introduction of new game modes to enhance the player experience. If implemented, this could lead to the addition of up to 12 new heroes annually. Balancing these new additions will be a significant challenge, but the team is prepared, as Guangguang highlighted in an interview with PC Gamer on March 14. He emphasized the importance of key metric data such as pick rates, win rates, and ability stats to guide their balancing efforts.
Season 2 Details and Future Plans
Season 2, dubbed Hellfire Gala, introduces players to the luxurious Mutant haven of the Living Island Krakoa, hosted by the new hero Emma Frost. Known as an X-Men villain with telepathic powers and the ability to transform objects into diamonds, Emma Frost will join the game as a Vanguard.
The Hellfire Gala season will feature new skins for characters like Luna Snow, Magneto, Cloak and Dagger, and Black Panther, all adorned in elegant formal wear, reflecting the theme of Marvel’s Hellfire Club, a prestigious social club of the world's elite.
Following Emma Frost’s debut, Season 2.5 will introduce Ultron, another iconic Marvel villain. The season trailer hints at a dramatic interruption by Ultron robots, signaling the beginning of the Age of Ultron. Details about Ultron’s role and abilities are yet to be fully disclosed.
Thor’s Lord of Asgard and Hawkeye’s Ronin Skins Available Now!
Marvel Rivals took to Twitter (X) on April 4 to announce the availability of new skins for Thor and Hawkeye. Thor’s Lord of Asgard skin draws inspiration from his revival by Odin in the comics, while Hawkeye’s Ronin skin reflects his time as a vigilante samurai.
Thor’s Rune King bundle includes the Rune King costume, spray, nameplate, The Omniscient MVP, and Well of Mimir emote. Meanwhile, the Hawkeye Ronin bundle offers the Ronin skin, spray, nameplate, Deadly Rain MVP, and Hone to Perfection emote.
