Second Dinner, a studio based in California, developed the highly popular game Marvel Snap, which is published by Nuverse, a subsidiary of ByteDance. Unfortunately, due to the ban on several apps including CapCut and Lemon8, Marvel Snap's availability on iOS and Android platforms was discontinued on January 18, 2025. This sudden move has left many players frustrated, particularly due to ongoing authorization issues. However, the game remains accessible to PC users via Steam.
The developers at Second Dinner were caught off guard by this incident and have assured fans they are diligently working to bring Marvel Snap back online. In an official statement from Platform X, they emphasized their commitment to the game's future: "Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress."
One of the most aggravating aspects of this situation was the lack of prior warning to players. Many were unaware of the impending lockout and continued to spend money on in-game purchases, unaware that their access would soon be cut off.
While Marvel Snap faced this disruption, not all ByteDance apps were affected. For instance, Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground continue to be playable, showcasing the selective nature of the ban.
In other news, Marvel Snap recently introduced a new card, Moonstone, which is part of the game's Ongoing archetype and is set to shake up the meta. Moonstone, a 4-cost, 6-power card, has the unique ability to copy the ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane. Given the substantial pool of low-cost Ongoing cards currently in the game, such as Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, Moonstone's ability to gain these effects for free can quickly amplify her power, making her a valuable addition to the deck.
