The Minecraft Movie is expanding its theatrical run with a special sing-along version titled "A Minecraft Movie: Block Party Edition."

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures announced today they're building on the film's successful box office performance. While specifics about this enhanced adaptation remain under wraps, Warner Bros. hinted audiences can expect to "sing (and meme) along" to Jack Black's musical performances as Steve. The Block Party Edition arrives in select North American theaters starting May 2.

Multiple factors likely influenced this extended theatrical strategy. Since its debut earlier this month, the Minecraft film has consistently broken records, opening with over $301 million worldwide before rapidly climbing past $500 million and $700 million. With current global earnings reaching $816,566,661 (per Box Office Mojo), the studios are pushing for that coveted billion-dollar milestone.

The Block Party Edition capitalizes on the viral memes that fueled the film's initial success. During early screenings, Minecraft fans created mayhem by shouting references to Chicken Jockeys, Crafting Tables, and other game elements - with one attendee even smuggling an actual chicken into a theater.

While the initial frenzy has subsided, Jack Black's musical numbers remain enduring fan favorites. His track "Steve's Lava Chicken" proved particularly meme-worthy, becoming popular enough to chart in the UK as the shortest song ever to achieve this feat.

Warner Bros. and Legendary hope to reignite the excitement when the Block Party Edition launches. For more behind-the-scenes insights, check out producer Torfi Frans Olafsson's comments on Herobrine's rumored cameo in the film.
