A Minecraft Movie has shattered box office records, surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie to claim the title of the largest domestic opening weekend for a video game adaptation. Starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, with the latter reprising his role from The Super Mario Bros. Movie, A Minecraft Movie raked in an impressive $157 million in North America alone. This outdid The Super Mario Bros. Movie's opening of $146 million in April 2023, although the latter still holds the record as the highest-grossing video game adaptation to date.

Internationally, A Minecraft Movie added another $144 million, bringing its global debut to a staggering $301 million. With a production budget of $150 million, not including marketing costs, the film is already showing signs of being a profitable venture for Warner Bros.

Based on Mojang's Minecraft, which is the best-selling video game ever and continues to be a global phenomenon owned by Microsoft, A Minecraft Movie has also introduced movie tie-in DLC to enhance the gaming experience in celebration of the film's release.

IGN rated A Minecraft Movie a 6/10, praising director Jared Hess for bringing a unique and humorous twist to the film's family-friendly adventure, especially in the first half. For those who have seen the movie, IGN offers an in-depth explanation of A Minecraft Movie's ending and post-credits scene, featuring insights from director Jared Hess and Minecraft's Torfi Frans Ólafsson.

In other box office news, Disney's live-action Snow White is facing potential disaster with a global box office of only $168.4 million ($77.5 million domestic and $90.9 million international) against a hefty $250 million production budget. A miraculous turnaround akin to Mufasa: The Lion King seems unlikely for this release.
