Despite the mixed feedback on Steam, Monster Hunter (MH) Wilds has impressively attracted over 1 million concurrent players. According to SteamDB, MH Wilds achieved an all-time peak of 1,384,608 players, significantly surpassing its predecessors. Monster Hunter World peaked at 334,684 players, while Monster Hunter Rise reached 231,360. However, MH Wilds currently holds a 'Mixed' review status on its Steam page, with only 57% of 54,669 reviews being positive. The predominant criticism centers on the game's poor optimization for PC and various performance hiccups.

Capcom Responds To PC Performance Issues

Addressing the backlash concerning MH Wilds' PC performance, Capcom has actively engaged with the community to resolve these issues. On February 28, 2025, Monster Hunter's official support account, Monster Hunter Status, used Twitter (X) to communicate solutions to the community. The post directed players to the MH Wilds support website, which offers detailed guidance on troubleshooting. Recommendations include updating video/graphics drivers, ensuring the latest Windows updates are installed, and performing a clean installation of video drivers.

For persistent issues, Capcom suggests, "Please also try the troubleshooting steps on the Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread on the Steam community page, as they contain more detailed and additional steps that may help resolve your issue."

Game-breaking Bug Blocking Story Progress

A significant game-breaking bug has emerged, preventing story progression for some players. A crucial NPC fails to appear during Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 A World Turned Upside Down, halting player advancement. Monster Hunter Status acknowledged this issue on Twitter (X) on March 2, 2025, and confirmed that the team is actively working on a fix.

Additionally, players have encountered issues with the "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features not unlocking as expected, alongside problems accessing the Smithy. The developers have responded swiftly, deploying hotfixes and updates across various platforms to address these concerns.

Character Editing Locked Behind Microtransactions

In MH Wilds, character customization is tied to microtransactions. Players can purchase the Monster Hunter Wilds - Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack for $6.00, allowing them to redo their character creation process three times. This pack is available across all digital storefronts. While basic changes like hair, eyebrow color, facial color, makeup, and clothing are free, more extensive edits require the voucher. The same applies to editing the appearance of the player's Palico companion, which necessitates a separate voucher pack. A more comprehensive option, allowing three edits for both character and Palico, is available for $10.

However, Capcom is offering a single character edit voucher for free. These microtransactions were not part of the game's testing phase but were announced by Capcom to be included in the final release.
