Nintendo has recently announced the pricing for upgrading two popular titles from their original Nintendo Switch versions to the enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The cost of these upgrades is significantly higher compared to previous offerings, reflecting the substantial enhancements included in the Switch 2 versions.
For instance, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from their original Switch versions to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each. However, NintendoLife has reported that the upgrades for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at more than double that amount each.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, along with the addition of achievements. It also supports the new "Zelda Notes" service within the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version of Breath of the Wild can access these new features by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.
The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content titled "Star-Crossed World." On the other hand, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition includes a new feature called "Jamboree TV," which utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, the Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Additionally, it offers an upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, a better frame rate, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.
While U.S. prices for these upgrades have not yet been listed on the American Nintendo eShop, possibly due to ongoing trade uncertainties, the UK Nintendo eShop has the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack listed at £16.99 / €19.99. This is more than double the £7.99 / €9.99 fee for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. The same pricing applies to the Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade, suggesting a potential U.S. price of $19.99.
The higher upgrade cost may be justified by the $80 price tag for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. The original Switch versions of these games are priced at $59.99 each, making the Switch 2 editions $20 more expensive.
Here's a breakdown of the prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games in the U.S. for those not opting for an upgrade:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99
It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no additional cost to subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online and the Expansion Pack. However, no such offer currently exists for those looking to upgrade Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders opened on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. The demand was high, and Nintendo has warned U.S. customers who pre-ordered via the My Nintendo Store that they cannot guarantee delivery on the release date due to the overwhelming interest.
