Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the innovative Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls on the Home screen, sparking excitement among fans. Since the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, there's been considerable buzz about the new functionalities of the Joy-Con controllers. Last month, we received confirmation that the Joy-Con can enter a "mouse mode," allowing players to glide the controllers on surfaces and use the analog sticks to simulate left-click and right-click actions, akin to a conventional mouse. This feature can be used with one or two Joy-Con simultaneously, either with both in mouse mode or one in standard and the other in mouse mode.

New details have emerged, showcasing the versatility of the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. As demonstrated on the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, these controls extend to navigating the Home menu on the Switch 2. Nintendo explained that by placing the Joy-Con 2 on a flat surface with the attachment side down, a cursor appears on the screen. "To display the cursor, set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it as shown," they instructed. Additionally, users can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus while using mouse controls, which can be used on the Home menu and within compatible software. To revert to thumbstick control, simply position the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.

While the exact number of games supporting these mouse controls remains undisclosed, Nintendo has demonstrated the technology working seamlessly with the Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4, and the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.

The eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for release on June 5. Pre-orders commenced on April 24, maintaining the price point at $449.99, and they were met with overwhelming demand. For more information, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
