Nintendo Warns U.S. Customers: Switch 2 Delivery Not Guaranteed Due to High Demand

Author : Eric May 17,2025

The much-anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2 is on the horizon, and U.S. fans have been met with a sobering warning from Nintendo. Following the company's announcement of struggling to meet demand in Japan, it has now extended a similar caution to its American audience. Nintendo has updated its website to alert those who have registered interest in purchasing a Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store that they cannot guarantee delivery by the console's June 5 release date. This means that invitation emails for purchase might arrive after the Switch 2 hits the market, though Nintendo assures that shipping dates will be confirmed upon purchase.

In a statement expressing gratitude for the overwhelming interest, Nintendo acknowledged the high demand and emphasized their commitment to fulfilling orders as soon as possible. "We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We'll confirm your shipping date upon purchase," the company stated.

For those eager to secure a Switch 2 on launch day, Nintendo suggests pre-ordering from third-party retailers, although these options are already sold out, as seen with GameStop. "If you wish to increase your opportunity of obtaining a Nintendo Switch 2 system at launch, please visit our participating retail partners above," Nintendo advised, pointing to GameStop, despite the console being sold out there. For those willing to wait, no further action is required after registering interest with My Nintendo Store.

The challenges faced by fans trying to pre-order the Switch 2 on April 24, coupled with Nintendo's recent warning, indicate that securing the next-gen console will be a daunting task around its launch period. Earlier in the week, Nintendo issued a similar warning to its customers in Japan, with President Shuntaro Furukawa noting that 2.2 million people had applied for a pre-order from the My Nintendo Store, far exceeding their expectations and capacity for delivery on June 5.

According to the FAQ on Nintendo's website, the first batch of invitation emails for the U.S. My Nintendo Store will start going out on May 8, 2025, with additional batches sent periodically until purchasing is open to everyone. These initial invitations will be sent on a first-come, first-serve basis to eligible registrants who meet specific priority criteria. Invitees will have 72 hours from the time the email is sent to complete their purchase.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invitation priority requirements:

  • You must have been the one who purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership.
  • You must have had any paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for a minimum of 12 months.
  • You must have opted in to share gameplay data and have at least 50 hours total gameplay hours.

Last week, Nintendo announced that Switch 2 pre-orders would begin in the U.S. on April 24, 2025, with the original price of $449.99 and launch date of June 5 remaining unchanged. Alongside the base console, Nintendo confirmed the Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle would stay at $499.99, with pricing for both the physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) unchanged at launch. However, due to ongoing tariff issues, the price of Switch 2 accessories has been increased.

Originally, pre-orders were scheduled to open on April 9, but Nintendo delayed them to assess the impact of tariffs and market conditions.
