The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, a game filled with eerie elements like skeletons, spirits, and zombies, has sparked a mysterious phenomenon among its community: the sighting of a 'ghost horse.' This spectral steed, unseen in both the original 2006 release and the 2025 remaster, was first brought to light by a Reddit user, TaricIsNotASupport.

In a post titled "Uhhhh, guys, is this new?" TaricIsNotASupport shared their encounter with the ghostly horse while exploring near Frostcrag Spire. "So I was crafting stupid spells in Frostcrag Spire, as it’s possibly my favourite way to have fun in this game, however this time when I left the Cosy Chaos Spire that has divided this community so very much I noticed something suuuuuuper strange in the distance," they explained. Driven by curiosity, they rushed towards the apparition and discovered a spectral horse with no name.

Despite thousands of hours played in the original Oblivion and over a hundred hours in the remastered version, TaricIsNotASupport had never seen this horse before. They reached out to the community for insights, sparking a widespread online search for any mentions of a spectral mount in the game's history. So far, no official records have been found on the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages website.

TaricIsNotASupport confirmed they could interact with and ride the ghostly horse, even sharing a clip of their character riding it. Despite its ethereal appearance, the horse functions like any other in the game, capable of fast travel and stabling. Named "Spookmane" by TaricIsNotASupport, the horse has become a beloved companion in their ongoing adventures.

Speculation about the ghost horse's origin abounds. Some believe it might be a glitch, possibly triggered by a misfired spell, given Bethesda's reputation for game bugs. ClaymoreBeatz commented, "Very weird, the wiki says there's only 2 unique horses, Shadowmere and unicorns. And there's no horse mods that I can see that do this so I highly doubt your [sic] lying about not being on PC, this is probably some sort of glitch that the new Remastered has or glitched magical effect. Armored horses names change to Armored horse I think so maybe it's an Armored horse that got hit by a spell and now its name and spell effect is glitched."

Others entertain the idea that Bethesda and Virtuos, the developers behind the remaster, might have hidden this ghost horse as a secret Easter egg for players to discover. While this theory seems less likely, it adds an exciting layer of mystery to the game.

The Oblivion community is eager to replicate the phenomenon and acquire their own ghost horses, but no specific method has been identified yet. TaricIsNotASupport's discovery of Spookmane has not only captured the community's attention but also their hearts, as they continue their journey with this spectral companion.

Oblivion Remastered, developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, boasts numerous enhancements, including 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, improved leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. New dialogue, a proper third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology have also been added, leading some fans to consider it more of a remake than a remaster. Bethesda has clarified their choice to pursue a remaster rather than a full remake.

As players dive into the remastered world, they are advised to tackle Kvatch early to avoid the challenges posed by level scaling. Additionally, adventurous players have found ways to explore beyond Cyrodiil, venturing into Valenwood, Skyrim, and even Hammerfell, the rumored setting for The Elder Scrolls VI.
