Peacemaker Season 2 First Look and Release Date

Author : Alexis Nov 06,2025

DC Studios co-chair James Gunn has officially announced an August 21 release date for Peacemaker Season 2 on Max, accompanied by a brief glimpse of new footage.

In a social media post, Gunn described the Season 2 premiere as “one of my all-time favorites.” The teaser features John Cena in action, breaking the fourth wall with a sly smile as flames blaze behind him. He is informed that Peacemaker is now “recognized as a superhero.”

Peacemaker Season 2 will follow the July 11 debut of Superman, the flagship film launching Gunn's reimagined DC Universe. It will be the third official entry in the new DCU, coming after last year's animated series Creature Commandos and this summer's Superman movie.

The revitalized cinematic universe, led by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, departs from the criticized DC Extended Universe—which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel—though certain elements will carry over.

Peacemaker exemplifies this continuity shift: Season 1 debuted in the former DCEU, while Season 2 joins the new DCU timeline.

Gunn has clarified that "many narrative threads will remain consistent for Peacemaker's story," though specifics on what transfers from the DCEU to DCU are still unconfirmed. He confirmed the entire Team Peacemaker cast is returning, with John Cena leading alongside returning actors such as Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Gunn also confirmed the series will take place chronologically after Creature Commandos and Superman, with events from the Superman film directly impacting Peacemaker.
