It's clear that the trading feature in Pokémon TCG Pocket has not met player expectations, despite being a much-anticipated addition. In response to the community's feedback, the developers are actively working on reworking the trading system. To show appreciation and keep players engaged, they are distributing 1000 Trade Tokens to everyone via the in-game Gifts menu. These tokens are essential for card trading, a process that has been at the center of much debate.
The developers had previously announced plans to adjust the trading mechanics and make the necessary trading currency more accessible. Players have expressed frustration over the current restrictions, such as only being able to trade cards of a certain rarity and the requirement to use a specific currency for these transactions.
I maintain my belief that the team behind TCG Pocket had two main options to sidestep these issues: either implement a completely open trading system or eliminate trading altogether. While concerns about bots and exploitation are valid, it seems unlikely that the current trading currency and card limitations would deter those determined to circumvent them.
Nevertheless, there is hope that the upcoming rework will address these concerns effectively. A well-executed trading system in a digital TCG could significantly enhance its appeal as a viable alternative to the traditional physical card game.
