Fans of the iconic action hero Rambo are in for a treat, as a new prequel project titled "John Rambo" is set to bring the character back to the screen. Directed by Jalmari Helander, known for his work on "Sisu" and "Big Game," the film is currently being launched at the Cannes market by Millennium Media. This production company, responsible for hits like the Expendables and Has Fallen series, also brought us "Rambo" in 2008 and "Rambo: Last Blood" in 2019.

The Cannes market, an integral part of the Cannes Film Festival, is where filmmakers showcase upcoming projects to potential investors and distributors. "John Rambo" aims to delve into the character's backstory, set during the Vietnam War, serving as a prequel to the 1982 classic "First Blood." While plot details remain scarce, the film promises to explore Rambo's early adventures.

As of now, casting for "John Rambo" has not been finalized, and original star Sylvester Stallone is aware of the project but not currently involved. The screenplay has been penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, writers known for their work on "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam." Filming is scheduled to commence in Thailand in October.

Helander’s recent success with the 2023 WWII action film "Sisu," which drew comparisons to the John Wick series but with a unique twist featuring an elderly Finnish commando, suggests he is well-suited to helm this gritty prequel. Fans and investors alike can look forward to more details emerging as the project progresses through the Cannes market.
