Ryan Reynolds is reportedly in the "early stages" of developing a new Deadpool and X-Men movie, according to THR. This project, still un-pitched to Marvel, aims to bring Deadpool into an ensemble film where he would not be the central figure. Instead, Reynolds envisions sharing the screen with three or four other X-Men characters, allowing them to take the spotlight and be "used in unexpected ways." This approach would differentiate the film from other X-Men projects, such as the one being developed by Hunger Games writer Michael Lesslie.
Reynolds is known for meticulously crafting his ideas before presenting them to Marvel, a process that was evident in the development of Deadpool & Wolverine, which initially started as a low-budget road trip movie. This isn't the first time we've heard about Reynolds working on a Deadpool ensemble movie, but this latest update provides more insight into the potential narrative direction.
While the specific X-Men characters to join Deadpool remain undisclosed, the Merc With a Mouth has a history of collaborating with various members of the team in previous films, including Wolverine, Colossus, Sabertooth, Pyro, and even Channing Tatum's Gambit.
