"Silksong Dev Hints at Nintendo Switch 2 with Cake Photo"

Author : Aiden May 01,2025

It's been six long years since Team Cherry unveiled Hollow Knight: Silksong, the much-anticipated follow-up to their 2017 Metroidvania gem, Hollow Knight. Throughout this period, fans have eagerly awaited updates, with Silksong making appearances—and sometimes not appearing at all—at various gaming showcases. At one point, Microsoft seemed to suggest a release before June 2023, but that didn't pan out. The Game Awards came and went without a whisper of Silksong. Yet, could the recently announced Nintendo Switch 2 Direct finally be the moment fans have been waiting for?

The excitement hinges on a seemingly innocuous image of a cake. Here's the scoop:

Eagle-eyed fans on the Hollow Knight subreddit spotted a change in Team Cherry co-director William Pellen's Twitter/X profile picture on January 15, showcasing a chocolate cake. Pellen's tweet added to the intrigue: "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow."

At that time, rumors swirled about Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal on January 16, which turned out to be true. Nintendo officially announced the Switch 2, yet many questions linger about this next-gen console. Was Pellen hinting at the Switch 2 announcement? If so, why?

This sparked a frenzy within the Hollow Knight community. Fans reverse-searched the cake image, leading them to a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe on Bon Appétit, published on April 2, 2024. This date caught their attention because Nintendo confirmed that the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 would air on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Fans speculate that Pellen might have initiated a Silksong alternate reality game (ARG) with this tweet and cake image.

The intrigue doesn't end there. Fans are also decoding Pellen's new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr. Redditor Representative-True proposed a compelling theory: "The character limit on Twitter handles is 15 characters, which is the length of ‘everydruidwaswr.’ I think 'wr' is likely the start of a word, like wrong or something. I have yet to decipher this, but the Druid of the Moss Temple is a Silksong NPC."

Adding to the mystery, Pellen's new X/Twitter name, "little bomey," has also caught fans' attention. Little Boomey is a wine from Southern Australia, home to Team Cherry, though the spelling differs. What could this signify?

It's crucial to recall that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced, Team Cherry listed launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. But that was six years ago. Could Nintendo have secured Hollow Knight: Silksong as a launch title for the Switch 2? Might it be a timed exclusive? Or is this just the wild speculation of fans desperate for news?

We'll find out in a few months. Until then, keep an eye on everything announced at Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal.
