IGN has exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong—the much-anticipated game will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. Developed by Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, Silksong has been topping the Steam wishlist chart for years, making it one of the most eagerly awaited games worldwide.
The game will be a highlight of the "Game Worlds" exhibition at ACMI, which will also showcase various aspects of Silksong's design and artistic direction. This includes hundreds of sprites animating Hornet’s movements and attacks, as well as insights into the game’s challenging boss fights.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their excitement, stating, “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!”
As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, showcasing one of several design elements that will be on display during the exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.
While the playable demo at ACMI suggests that Silksong might be released before September 18, perhaps even in August, fans remain eager for an official release date. The game's development has seen numerous teases and updates, including a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, where it confirmed a 2025 release window and showcased a few seconds of new gameplay.
Silksong was originally announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with versions for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 planned for later. The year kicked off with Team Cherry teasing fans with a mysterious chocolate cake recipe, sparking hopes for a re-reveal in April. As anticipation continues to build, it's clear that the world of Hollow Knight is gearing up for something big.
