Sony to Remove PS4 Games from PlayStation Plus in 2024

Author : Nathan May 30,2025

Sony has announced plans to phase out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials monthly games and the Games Catalog beginning in January 2026, shifting its focus exclusively to PlayStation 5 titles. According to a PlayStation Blog post unveiling February 2025's monthly titles, this change will impact the monthly games available to subscribers but will not affect previously acquired titles. Existing Games Catalog entries will remain playable until their removal during routine updates.

Sony emphasized its commitment to enhancing the PlayStation Plus experience, promising ongoing improvements such as exclusive discounts, online multiplayer access, and enhanced game save storage. As the company prioritizes PS5 content, users can expect regular additions of new PS5 games to the subscription service.

The announcement comes amid growing popularity of the PS5, which launched in 2020, while the PS4, released in 2013, continues to have a strong player base. While details regarding potential reclassification of PS4 games into the Classics Catalog are unclear, Sony plans to share further updates closer to the implementation date.
