Spider-Man 2 Launches with Mixed Steam Reviews Due to PC Performance Issues

If you're a fan of immersive storytelling and high-octane action, Spider-Man 2 on PC had all the makings of being a standout title—especially after its surprisingly approachable system requirements caught everyone’s attention. Yet, despite the initial promise, the game, developed by Nixxes, launched with a lukewarm reception on Steam, garnering a mixed user review rating. Many players have expressed frustration over a range of technical hiccups that detract from the overall experience.

As it stands, only 55% of reviews for Spider-Man 2 on Steam are positive. An RTX 4090 owner remarked, “Even with a top-tier GPU and the latest Nvidia drivers (566.36), the game keeps crashing randomly.” Another player chimed in, “Completely unplayable on PC. Crashes to desktop every five minutes. I’m requesting a refund immediately.”

One disgruntled gamer summed it up: “Hold off on purchasing until they release a few stabilization patches. Seriously, this is rough. Lighting glitches in cutscenes, scenes that crawl at seconds per frame, audio sync issues, freezing, stuttering—you name it. Frankly, I’d rather spend the $70 elsewhere.”

The primary culprit seems to be frequent crashes tied to the game’s graphics controller, even among users with high-end setups. One reviewer noted that the error message reads: “A problem has occurred with your display driver. This can happen due to outdated drivers, settings exceeding your GPU’s capabilities, GPU overheating, or a game-related issue. Try updating your drivers or adjusting in-game settings.”

Other players highlighted issues such as improperly functioning DLSS and ray tracing, lengthy load times, disappearing textures, and persistent audio problems. Several reports indicate that performance issues, including stutters and hard crashes, tend to worsen after prolonged gameplay. Some speculate that a memory leak could be to blame.

In response to user complaints, Nixxes addressed the forum threads, reassuring troubled gamers: “We’re sorry to hear you’re facing issues. Please consult the troubleshooting guides on the Nixxes Support website and reach out if the problem persists. Be sure to attach your logs and crash dumps as outlined on the support page to help us resolve the issue swiftly.”

Moreover, Nixxes acknowledged a bug occurring during photo-op missions when framerates dip below 20 FPS. They recommended lowering graphics settings or resolution as a temporary fix to bypass the problem.
