Today marks the exciting release of the "A Pirate’s Fortune" DLC for Star Wars Outlaws, available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. The driving force behind this expansion is none other than the beloved character, Hondo Ohnaka, a cunning Weequay pirate known from the Darth Maul comics and Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. According to Drew Rechner, Creative Director at Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment, the passion of the development team for Hondo was the key inspiration behind this new storyline.
"We always knew because there were so many passionate people on the team that we needed to feature Hondo. And, you know, that scoundrel fantasy of Kay mixing with the pirate fantasy of Hondo, it just kind of makes sense, right?" Rechner shared with IGN. The narrative explores Kay's journey towards leadership, with Hondo potentially serving as a mentor, adding depth and intrigue to her development.
The DLC introduces a fresh adventure involving the Rokana Raiders crime gang and the Miyuki Trade League, which can provide Kay with essential upgrades for her Trailblazer ship. Additionally, a new blaster capability called Shock enhances gameplay, giving players more tactical options during missions.
Looking ahead, Star Wars Outlaws is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 4. While Rechner remained tight-lipped about specific new features for this platform, he hinted at forthcoming announcements. "In terms of a specific feature set, that's something that we will get into later. So we'll have more stuff to talk about later," he teased. Potential enhancements could include utilizing the Switch 2's controllers as a mouse and leveraging its new GameChat capability, promising an enriched gaming experience for Switch players.
