Suikoden STAR LEAP marks the franchise's first venture into mobile gaming, aiming to bring the beloved series to a broader audience. In an interview with Famitsu on March 4, 2025, Star Leap Producer Shinya Fujimatsu revealed the reasoning behind choosing mobile as the platform. "We wanted to make Suikoden accessible to as many people as possible, which led us to select mobile as the easiest platform to play on. Our goal is to ensure that Star Leap captures the essence of Suikoden, delivering a true numbered installment of the series," he stated.

The development team is focused on creating a game that combines the high-quality visuals, sounds, and storytelling of console games with the convenience of mobile gaming.

Director Yoshiki Meng Shan further elaborated on the series' distinctive characteristics, noting the blend of an upbeat atmosphere with serious scenes and the dynamic battle system. "The tempo of battles and the cooperative nature of many characters in combat are hallmarks of Suikoden," he added.

Both a Sequel and a Prequel to the Series

Suikoden STAR LEAP will serve as both a sequel and a prequel, weaving through different eras of the series' timeline. The game will start two years before the events of Suikoden 1 and will span across various periods, enriching the series' official history.

Fujimatsu expressed enthusiasm about the game's quality, stating, "Even if you're new to the series, we've designed Star Leap to be easily accessible on mobile devices, making it simple to dive into the story and gameplay. We hope it will serve as an excellent entry point into the 'Suikoden Genso' universe."

Meng Shan echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the team's dedication to maintaining the series' reputation. "Suikoden is a leading RPG series in Japan, and we've meticulously crafted every aspect of Star Leap—from the story and graphics to the battle system, sound, and training system—to uphold its legacy. Suikoden STAR LEAP was unveiled during the Suikoden Live broadcast on March 4, 2025, alongside other exciting projects in the series. The game is in development for iOS and Android, though no official release date has been announced yet.
