FromSoftware has provided further insights into its latest Switch 2 exclusive, *The Duskbloods*. The collaboration with Nintendo seems to have inspired not only the game's style but also the design of the hub area's keeper, giving it a notably different—and surprisingly cute—twist.

The trailer showcased during the recent Switch 2 Direct concluded with a close-up of a glowing glyph-covered winged rat character gazing directly at the camera. Intrigued viewers may now know that this quirky creature serves as the hub companion. "This character shares a similar role to the fire keepers from the *Dark Souls* series," explained director Hidetaka Miyazaki in an interview with Nintendo. "They stay within the hub area, offering players advice and guidance."

"I think we aimed to incorporate something a bit more Nintendo-like for this partnership," Miyazaki continued. When asked to elaborate, he humorously noted, 'We went for something cute this time around. Though, I must admit, this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter).' "

FromSoftware's iconic shrine keepers have always played pivotal roles in guiding players through their intricate worlds. Characters such as Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll are familiar faces that players encounter repeatedly, often providing essential assistance to progress.

Given that *The Duskbloods* is a PvPvE game, it remains to be seen what kind of support this unusual winged rat companion will offer. Miyazaki hinted that the development team experimented with several innovative concepts, promising surprises upon the game's release on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
