Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Now Streams Select Games on Consoles

Author : Owen May 12,2025

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members have a fresh perk to enjoy: the ability to stream select games directly to their Xbox consoles without the need for downloads. This exciting update was shared in an Xbox Wire news post today, where Xbox announced that Ultimate members can now stream games from the Game Pass catalog and even "select games they own" on their Xbox Series X, S, and Xbox One consoles via cloud streaming.

Previously, cloud streaming was available on smart TVs, PCs, smartphones, and Meta Quest headsets, but this marks the first time the feature has been extended to consoles. This means users can now enjoy their favorite games without the wait time associated with downloads, and without consuming valuable hard drive space.

To access this feature on your Xbox console, follow these steps:

  • Go to My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games.
  • Cloud playable games will be marked with a cloud badge on their game page. Use the Filter option to quickly find these games by selecting Ready to play > Cloud gaming.
  • To start playing, select the game and then choose Play with Cloud Gaming. You can also start streaming directly from the Store app after purchasing select cloud playable games.

Conversely, users can stream any game installed on their Xbox consoles to devices with supported web browsers using this link. Note that this feature is no longer supported on the Xbox mobile app but remains available on phones via the browser link. Xbox is also working to extend this feature to Samsung and Amazon Fire smart TVs, as well as Meta Quest headsets.

Additionally, Xbox has announced that starting this month, Xbox and Xbox 360 backward compatible games will also support remote play, enhancing the gaming experience even further.

Xbox emphasizes that these updates are part of their broader initiative to help users manage and free up storage space on their consoles. A new feature in the console's settings offers recommendations for cleaning up hard drive space, accessible via My Games & Apps > Manage.

In response to the increasing size of game installations, such as those for titles like Call of Duty and Baldur's Gate 3, Xbox has been actively working to expand storage solutions. For those still in need of more storage, even with these new changes, we've highlighted some of the best storage options available for the Xbox Series X and S. These are particularly useful if you're not keen on investing in the newer Xbox models, which come with enhanced built-in storage capacities.
