How to Play Okey
The standard Okey game is played with four players. Each player sorts their tiles using a cue stick, aiming to create sets and runs. The game includes tiles in four colors: Red, Black, Yellow, and Blue, numbered from 1 to 13, plus two fake Okey tiles, totaling 106 tiles.
At the start, tiles are shuffled and automatically distributed among players. The player next to the dealer receives 15 tiles, while the others get 14. Players then organize their tiles into sets or runs:
- Normal arrangement involves creating sets of at least three tiles, either in a sequence of the same color or as groups of the same number across different colors.
- In the pair formation, the goal is to arrange all tiles into seven pairs, ending the game by discarding the last tile.
The indicator tile, placed face-up in the middle of the table, determines the Okey tile, which can substitute for any tile in the game. Finishing the game with an Okey tile doubles the points earned.
Okey Game Rules
The indicator rule comes into play at the start of each new game. If the indicator tile is an Okey-colored tile, the next player must reveal it; otherwise, 2 points are deducted from the other players.
The game ends when a player discards their last tile. If it's not an Okey, it's considered a normal finish, deducting 4 points if it's Okey-colored, or 2 points otherwise. Completing the game with seven pairs results in a 4-point deduction from other players.
Special finishes include completing all tiles in the same color from 1 to 13, which resets other players' points to zero, or completing all tiles in the same color but in a non-sequential order, deducting 8 points from other players.
