**Players & Cards**
Tong-Its is exclusively for three players and uses a standard 52-card Anglo-American deck (jokers excluded). The cards rank from Ace (1 point) through 2 to 10 (face value), up to Jack, Queen, and King (each worth 10 points). The goal is to form sets and runs while minimizing the count of unmatched cards in your hand.
**Objective**
The aim of Tongits is to draw and discard cards to create sets and runs. A run is three or more consecutive cards of the same suit, like ♥4, ♥5, ♥6 or ♠8, ♠9, ♠10, ♠J (note: A-K-Q does not count as a run since aces are low). A set is three or four cards of the same rank, such as ♥7, ♣7, ♦7. Remember, a card can only be part of one combination at a time.
**The Deal**
The first dealer is chosen at random, with subsequent deals going to the winner of the previous hand. Thirteen cards are dealt to the dealer and twelve to each other player, counterclockwise. The remaining cards form the stock, placed face down.
**The Play**
Each turn involves drawing a card from either the stock or the discard pile (if you can form a meld with it), followed by an optional exposing of melds (sets or runs) on the table. You must open your hand by laying at least one meld on the table. Laying off (sapaw) is optional and allows you to add cards to existing melds, yours or others'. Conclude your turn by discarding one card onto the discard pile.
