While the rules for selecting trumps are largely similar to those in contract bridge, they are less complex in Auction Bridge & IB. The play and laws also share similarities with contract bridge, ensuring a familiar yet distinct gaming experience. The dealer initiates the trump selection process and is required to declare a bid to win at least the odd trick in a chosen trump suit or at No-trumps. Higher bids aim for more points rather than more tricks; for instance, a bid of 3 Spades (27 points) outranks a bid of 4 Clubs (24 points).
In terms of scoring, each trick beyond the first six contributes points based on the suit:
- No-trumps: 10 points
- Spades: 9 points
- Hearts: 8 points
- Diamonds: 7 points
- Clubs: 6 points
Achieving a game requires accumulating 30 points, adding an exciting challenge to each round.
