Marvel Rivals is set to elevate the cooperative combat experience with exciting updates in Season 2, bringing fresh team-up skills and highly anticipated skins for fan-favorite heroes. NetEase continues to build momentum with strategic improvements and cosmetic additions, ensuring a dynamic and engaging gameplay environment.
Upcoming Updates for Marvel Rivals
Enhanced Team-Up Skills and New Additions
Game Director Guangyun Chen has confirmed that Season 2 will introduce new team-up skills alongside adjustments to existing ones. In a recent interview with PC Gamer on March 14, Chen shared insights into the evolving synergy system.
“Starting from Season 2, we will roll out new Team-Up skills as part of the seasonal update while refining some current abilities. Combined with comprehensive balance changes, this will shape a fresh combat experience tailored to the season,” Chen explained.
Currently, Marvel Rivals features 17 unique team-up abilities, including Ragnarok Rebirth (Hela with Loki or Thor), Lunar Force (Cloak & Dagger with Moon Knight), and Allied Agents (Hawkeye and Black Widow). With the ever-expanding roster, these updates present both opportunities and challenges for maintaining balance across hero interactions.
Hero Balance and Data-Driven Development
As Marvel Rivals grows, balancing remains a top priority. Chen detailed the team’s approach: “We closely monitor key performance metrics across game modes. In both Quick Match and Competitive play, we analyze win rates, pick rates, damage output, healing, damage taken, and final blows across various player ranks and tournaments. This data forms the foundation of our balancing strategy.”
Additionally, the team evaluates common hero compositions and their success rates to guide broader balance decisions. Player feedback also plays a crucial role. “We actively listen to the community, using their insights as a key reference when shaping updates,” Chen added.
Back in January, Chen revealed in an interview with Metro that a new hero would be introduced every half-season. With each season lasting approximately three months, this means Marvel Rivals will welcome eight new characters annually.
The development pipeline remains robust. “Season 2 content is locked in and ready to launch. Designs for Seasons 3 and 4 are already complete and under active development,” Chen confirmed. This aligns with NetEase’s long-term vision—previously stating a 10-year commitment to Marvel Rivals—ensuring consistent, high-quality updates for years to come.
Spider-Punk 2099 and Steam Power Iron Man Arrive March 20
NetEase announced via Marvel Rivals’ official Twitter (X) account on March 18 that two fan-demanded skins will launch on March 20 at 7 PM PDT / 10 PM EDT / March 21 at 2:00 AM UTC.
- Spider-Punk 2099: A futuristic reimagining of Spider-Man, this skin features a digital mask, spiked mohawk, and an electric guitar, blending punk aesthetics with cyberpunk flair.
- Steam Power Iron Man: Inspired by steampunk design, this Iron Man variant showcases brass detailing, large exhaust pipes, and a glowing furnace core on the chest, offering a vintage-meets-tech visual upgrade.
Both skins were previously showcased during the game’s closed beta, sparking strong community demand. Their return follows the official release of Loki’s Presidential skin, another beta fan favorite. While the skins’ availability is confirmed, pricing details have not yet been disclosed.
