MultiVersus, the free-to-play crossover fighting game released in 2024, will soon be taken offline permanently.
Player First Games confirmed back in January that MultiVersus Season 5 would be its final season, announcing the game's permanent shutdown for 5 PM PDT (12 noon EDT) on May 30, 2025. The title was reportedly considered a significant failure for Warner Bros. Discovery; during a November 2024 financial call, the company acknowledged that MultiVersus performed far below expectations, leading to a $100 million writedown for its games division. This brought the segment's total losses to $300 million following the underwhelming January release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Just one month after this announcement, Warner Bros. canceled its planned Wonder Woman game and closed three studios: Monolith Productions, WB San Diego, and MultiVersus developer Player First Games.
In a thread titled "Tomorrow Multiversus shuts down, what are the final things you have to say about the game," hundreds of players shared comments, reminiscing about their favorite moments.
"MultiVersus was a dream. It was a platform fighter that emphasized fast-paced, offensive gameplay and 2v2 matches built around team synergy," wrote one player. "Beyond its core concept, the voice casting was fantastic. Many original voice actors reprised their roles—like the late Kevin Conroy as Batman, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, Kate Micucci as Velma, John DiMaggio as Jake, and Eric Bauza as Bugs Bunny and Marvin the Martian—and the character interactions during and after matches were a delight.
"While some character choices and move designs were puzzling (like Banana Guard or Shaggy's 'Ultra Instinct' style), I can't deny that most of the movesets were brilliantly creative. There will never be another game quite like MultiVersus."

"Nothing beats the feeling of playing the beta back in '22. I was completely hooked on the game's fast pace," another player replied. "I remember getting sick and playing nothing else. I'll miss it and hope it gets revived someday with a sequel or something similar."
"This game will always hold a special place in my heart, right next to PlayStation All-Stars," another commenter shared nostalgically, while a different player added: "Tom and Jerry were one of the most unique and fun fighters I've ever experienced and rekindled my love for the fighting game genre."

Some in the community are holding onto hope, but most players accept that the game is gone for good, particularly given "the immense IP licensing nightmare" involved in reviving it. Nevertheless, preservation efforts are underway for when the servers go dark.
"While MultiVersus may not be essential for every social gathering, its fresh take on team-based combat makes it an excellent platform fighter for online play," we noted in IGN's MultiVersus review, awarding it a score of 8.
