Xbox Fans Concerned by Starfield No-Show

Author : Aaron Jan 10,2026

Xbox Games Showcase 2024 left a few notable titles unaccounted for. State of Decay 3, for instance, was a no-show. The anticipated Perfect Dark reboot was also missing, but Starfield’s continued absence was the most disappointing—especially for its dedicated fanbase.

Starfield enthusiasts had hoped Bethesda would reveal some news during the Xbox showcase. While The Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76 both received attention, Starfield was completely absent—no mention of DLC, expansions, PlayStation 5 availability, or anything else.

At this point, it’s no exaggeration to say that the Starfield community is running low on hope and trust. Bethesda’s silence around the game has been deeply disheartening.

“I had high expectations for today’s Xbox event, but there was nothing,” said a user named acatato on the Starfield subreddit. “After such prolonged silence—not to mention only receiving minor updates—the game’s future looks grim. It’s really disappointing.”

“What a letdown,” added totallynormalpersonz. “Nowadays, the only news we get from Bethesda comes through the Creation Club. The Xbox showcase was the perfect opportunity to reveal something meaningful. Sadly, Bethesda doesn’t seem interested. It wouldn’t shock me if they’ve dropped the game, expecting the community to carry it with mods. That doesn’t inspire confidence in future Bethesda projects.”

“Bethesda makes it incredibly difficult to stay loyal to this game,” said TheVossDoss. “I adore Starfield—I’ve put over 1,100 hours into it. Without mods, I’d have quit long ago. Bethesda might never see this message, but I’ll say it anyway: Shame on you for leaving your fans in the dark and giving up so easily. If you’re really abandoning the game, just tell us, so we can move on. I was shocked Starfield got zero attention today. A huge thank you to the modders keeping it alive, but I fear we’re close to the end of the line.”

Clearly, fans are simply asking for Bethesda to communicate openly about the future of Starfield. Whether the game is being left behind or receiving future support, the community wants clarity—especially regarding the promised second expansion, or the possibility of a release on other platforms.

Comments expressing frustration are now appearing under Bethesda Game Studios’ unrelated posts. For instance, a recent Fallout 76 Summer Game Fest interview prompted questions like: “Why did you abandon Starfield?”, “Have you given up on the game?”, and “Farewell, Starfield.” The pattern is clear.

Amid the growing disappointment, a few voices suggest Bethesda might still surprise everyone with a shadow-dropped expansion or PS5 release. The developer found massive success with the stealth launch of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which attracted over 4 million players in April. This could represent Bethesda’s new strategy—meaning a Starfield update might still be on the horizon.

Regardless, Starfield supporters are now reviewing past Bethesda statements for any sign of encouragement. Starfield launched in September 2023 as Bethesda’s first original IP in a quarter-century, but it failed to match the acclaim of past Fallout and The Elder Scrolls titles. Its Shattered Space expansion, which arrived a year later in September 2024, currently has a “mostly negative” user rating on Steam.

The game did grow to 15 million players, but whether Bethesda intends to continue supporting it—or shift focus to other franchises—has been a subject of ongoing debate. In June 2024, Bethesda affirmed its dedication to Starfield’s future, confirming at least one more story expansion after Shattered Space. Todd Howard of Bethesda Game Studios also stated in an interview with MrMattyPlays that the studio intends to release major story expansions annually for “ideally many years to come.”

Now, it’s a matter of waiting to see if those promises still hold true.
