The Voodoo Doll is one of the safer Cursed Possessions available in Phasmophobia, thanks to its favorable risk-reward ratio. Although recent updates have tweaked its benefits, it remains a valuable asset for players.

The primary function of the Voodoo Doll is to provoke the ghost into performing actions that provide evidence. By inserting pins into the doll, one at a time, you can encourage even the most reluctant ghosts to reveal clues such as EMF5 readings or Ultraviolet prints. There are 10 pins in total that you can use, but each pin comes with a cost: inserting a pin reduces your sanity by 5%. Therefore, using all the pins could deplete up to 50% of your sanity, significantly increasing your vulnerability to ghost hunts.

The most critical risk is the heart pin. Inserting pins is a random process, and if you accidentally hit the heart pin, it will instantly drop your sanity by 10% and trigger a Cursed Hunt. During a Cursed Hunt, the ghost will appear near your location and pursue you for an extended period—20 seconds longer than usual.

Despite these risks, the Voodoo Doll can be a game-changer for gathering evidence if used wisely and with caution.

What Are Cursed Objects (Possessions) in Phasmophobia?

Cursed Possessions, often referred to as "Cursed Objects," are unique items that randomly appear on any map in Phasmophobia. Their availability can vary based on difficulty settings or if you're playing in Challenge Mode.

Unlike standard equipment, which helps locate ghosts and gather evidence with minimal risk, Cursed Objects offer shortcuts to manipulate ghost behavior but at a much higher risk to your character. The decision to use these items is entirely up to you and your team, with no penalties for choosing not to engage with them. Typically, only one Cursed Possession will spawn per contract, though this can be altered in Custom settings.

There are seven different Cursed Objects in the game:

  • Haunted Mirror
  • Voodoo Doll
  • Music Box
  • Tarot Cards
  • Ouija Board
  • Monkey Paw
  • Summoning Circle
