Rummy 500 (also called Persian Rummy, Pinochle Rummy, 500 Rum, or 500 Rummy) is a popular Rummy variation. Similar to straight Rummy, it stands out by allowing players to draw more than just the top card from the discard pile.
According to standard Rummy 500 rules, players earn points for cards they meld and lose points for any unmelded cards (called deadwood) left in their hand when another player goes out.
Game Rules:
• The game can be played by 2 to 4 players, like most versions
• It uses a single deck including jokers
• Each player starts with 7 cards
• The goal is to be the first player to reach 500 points
• Even if multiple players reach the target score, only the one with the highest total wins
• You need to create sets and sequences. A set consists of 3 or 4 cards of the same rank; a sequence is 3 or more consecutive cards of the same suit. Scoring in Rummy 500 is based on the values of the cards in these sets and sequences
• Each turn involves drawing a card at the start and discarding a card at the end
• A third option during your turn is to lay down a new meld or add to an existing meld from another player. This latter action is called building
• Jokers act as wild cards and can substitute for any card in a set or sequence
• You may pick up one or several cards from the discard pile, but you must immediately use the last card you picked up
• When taking from the discard pile, you must use that card right away to form a meld, or the move is not valid
• All face cards are worth 10 points. An Ace can be worth 11 points in a meld, or a 15-point penalty if caught in your hand. A Joker takes the value of the card it replaces and carries a 15-point penalty
• The game consists of multiple rounds
• Scores are accumulated round by round. The first player to reach or exceed the target score wins
• The game ends when a player reaches the target. If there is a tie, a playoff round decides the winner, who takes the pot
